The Emmy Awards are this Sunday, September 18.
On Tuesday I met some amazing television writers at Sublime Primetime, the Writers Guild's annual panel of Emmy-nominated writers. It was a lot of fun hearing advice from the pros.
What is your favorite television show? If you could ask a TV writer anything about his or her show, what would it be and why?
Write about your TV Adventure in the comments section below.

Speaking Adventure
Saturday, August 7, is Professional Speakers Day!
Write a short speech - just two to five minutes long - about something you that makes you happy. Remember, it should have a beginning, a middle, and an end. After you practice it a few times, give the speech to a friend or a parent. Even better, find a friend interested in writing a speech too, and then you can present to each other.
The ability to communicate well, whether it is on paper or verbally, is a skill you will be able to use in school, at work, and throughout your life.
Have fun!

Listening Adventure
March is National Listening Awareness Month. Take about 5 minutes. Sit outside, in your home, at school. And just listen. Be aware of everything you can hear, whether it's birds chirping, a car zooming down your street, a snow plow - or a snowball fight, or classmates talking (you probably should do this during lunch or recess, not during class).
Note: If you live somewhere cold, you probably should try doing this adventure inside. Either that or bundle up!
Then, write down everything you just heard. Make a list of at least 15 things; maybe even 20. You will be surprised by everything you hear when you just pay attention. When you write you want to ignite all of your senses. And this is a fun way to practice. Happy Writing!

Cartoon Adventure
March is Youth Art Month, National Craft Month, and Humorists are Artists Month. What can I say? March is a busy month!
This week, let's focus on "Show" not "Tell" by making up a cartoon.
Think of a funny situation, sketch it out, and then write a funny caption. You can do your cartoon in one panel (box) or a series of three or four.
For research, look at your favorite comic strips and see what it is you like about them.
Note: It's okay if you can't draw. You can always cut a picture out of a magazine to use as the show part. Or, team up with a friend who is a good artist. Explain your idea, and see what your friend comes up with. Help each other out, and see how many cartoons you can make when you work together.
Happy Creating!
Post the title of your cartoon in the comments section below.

Olympics Adventure
The Olympics are in full swing, which prompts this week's writing adventure: If you were an athlete, what would be your sport?
Now, here's the fun and creative part. You can write about an actual sport OR make up one of your own. What sport would you excel at? Why? What makes you so good at it? What would you wear? How would you train? Why do people root for you?
Write it up like it's a news item or feature article about you.
Go for the gold! Happy writing!
