Listening Adventure

March is National Listening Awareness Month. Take about 5 minutes. Sit outside, in your home, at school. And just listen. Be aware of everything you can hear, whether it's birds chirping, a car zooming down your street, a snow plow - or a snowball fight, or classmates talking (you probably should do this during lunch or recess, not during class).

Note: If you live somewhere cold, you probably should try doing this adventure inside. Either that or bundle up!

Then, write down everything you just heard. Make a list of at least 15 things; maybe even 20. You will be surprised by everything you hear when you just pay attention.
When you write you want to ignite all of your senses. And this is a fun way to practice. Happy Writing!

Post 5 of the Things You Heard in the comments section below.

  1. Oh...love this. I did that this morning as a matter of fact. I heard:

    1. the early morning birds chirping.
    2. my daughter's stereo in her room.
    3. the cat bell on my kitty's collar as he walked in to wake me up.
    4. My husband shuffling around in the kitchen.
    5. Garbage truck outside.

  2. Here are 5 of mine:

    Car door slamming
    Engine starting
    Shoes clicking on pavement
    People chatting
    Crows cawing

    Thanks. That was fun!
